Applying to a London Modelling Agency

So you want to apply to a modelling agency?  Well the first thing to do is go back to the very start and have a think if modelling is the right career for you.

Like it or not, modelling is based around aesthetics and so as a model your measurements are very important.  Except in very unusual circumstance girls need to be at the VERY least 5' 7" and guys 5' 11".  If you aren't this tall it's always worth sending off your images but don't hold your breath unless you have an amazing face or something else about you that stands out from the crowd.

The second thing you need to think about is your proportions.  Don't get this mixed up for 'skinny' as they are two very different things.  Model don't have to be stick thin but they do have to have a figure that's in proportion!  A model needs to represent the 'ideal' as at the end of the day a model is an advertising tool for a brand.  It's always important to remember this.

So if you have the right height, proportions and you think you have the right look then you can consider applying to a model agency.  It's no secret that most modelling jobs take place in large cities such as London so also think about the amount of travelling that you'll need to do.  Too many people think of modelling as a hobby but no agency will tolerate this from a model.  If you want to model and actually stand a chance of earning good money from it you need to take it seriously and understand that you'll need to do a lot of travelling in and around the major cities often at very short notice.

So moving on from that - once you've thought about whether a) you're right for modelling and b) you can commit to it, it's time to find an agency and apply.

You generally have two options to apply to an agency: walk-in or email your photos.

Walk ins are where you literally go and visit the agency at their office and get their opinion.  Check the agency website to see when they have walk-ins and just pop down.  You'll get instant feedback but it can take a thick skin as an agency will usually tell you on the spot if they aren't interested!

Alternatively you can email in some images.   Now no matter what anyone tells you you DO NOT have to have professional images to apply to an agency.  There are plenty of people out there that will try to sell you a 'model portfolio' on the promise that they'll open the door to an agency but I assure they WILL NOT!  An agency wants to see plain, clear images of you when you apply.  You need a clear head shot and full length shot taken with a digital camera, your age, contact details and your measurements.  Send that information off to the agency and if they like you they'll be in touch!!
